Guardian Tales progression guide

Updated 7 September 2026

Guardian Tales layers several long-term investment systems on top of a Hero's base kit — Awakening and Limit Break push their level and stat cap higher, Ascension can upgrade a Hero's grade outright, and Exclusive Weapons plus Relic gear round out a build. None of these need to be rushed on your whole roster — the game rewards funneling investment into a small core rather than spreading it thin.

Awakening and Limit Break

Awakening Stones raise a Hero's stat ceiling and are available from the Hero Growth tab in the shop — spend Legendary Awakening Stones on your Point Hero and main Party members first, since this is one of the first real power spikes a new account gets access to.

Limit Break raises a Hero's level cap beyond the default ceiling. It's an intermediate-game milestone — most guides treat clearing through World 5 and starting to fill in Awakening nodes as the sign you're ready to start Limit Breaking your core team.

Ascension

A handful of Heroes can Ascend from a lower grade into a stronger one — the wiki's own Hero data shows several Rare-grade Heroes carrying an Ascended Myth form (Craig, Coco, Fei, Mei among them), which is why their listed grade sometimes reads as a combination of the two.

Ascension is worth prioritizing on a Hero you're already committed to running long-term — it's a real grade upgrade, not a small stat bump, so it pays off fastest on whichever Ascend-eligible Hero already has a slot on your main team.

Exclusive Weapons

Most Unique-grade-and-above Heroes have one Exclusive Weapon ("Ex Weapon") tied to them by name — equipping it is usually the single biggest damage or utility jump available to that Hero, well beyond what a generic weapon of the same type provides.

Prioritize Exclusive Weapons for your Point Hero and any Party member whose Leader Skill you're leaning on — a handful of Heroes are commonly named as getting an outsized boost from theirs once built.

Relic gear

Relics are equipped gear pieces with randomly rolled substats and a base stat line; running a full set of 4 matching Relic types unlocks a stage-wide buff on top of their individual stats.

Which substat to chase depends on where you're using the Hero: boss-focused content wants Boss Damage rolls, PvP wants PvP Damage rolls, and a Party Hero whose main job is triggering their Leader Skill benefits more from Skill Damage than from raw combat stats.

Don't feel pressured to perfect-roll Relics early — a serviceable 4-piece set on your Point Hero matters far more starting out than a min-maxed set on a Hero you're not actively running.
