Sword of Convallaria — new player & reroll guide

Updated 1 September 2026

Sword of Convallaria is a turn-based tactical RPG — grid maps, height and facing, a five-unit squad, and a gacha roster. It rewards planning a whole turn over stat-checking. This guide is built from the game's own systems and community creator consensus, reworded. For where units rank see the Tier List; for squads see Best Teams; for gear see the Gear tier list guide.

Should you reroll?

Not really. SoC is generous — the beginner selector gives you a strong Legendary, the story and Anecdote side-quests hand out a large pull stockpile, and anniversary events add more. Most accounts end up with a workable roster.

If you do reroll or target one unit, aim for a support (Taair, Heshan-type units) over a specific DPS. Supports never fall off; the DPS meta rotates.

Redeem the codes (Codes page) before you spend anything — they're Hope Luxite, the pull currency.

The five classes

Destroyer — melee bruiser DPS, high damage, wants to get in.

Watcher — ranged DPS / mages / some supports; fragile, keep them out of enemy archer range.

Defender — tanks and shielders; front them to absorb the enemy turn.

Breaker — anti-armour and shield-break specialists; matter more now that enemies stack shields.

Seeker — mobile skirmishers; grab objectives, flank, assassinate.

Build one of each role deep rather than a wide, shallow roster.

Modes to prioritise early

Story — the main path; unlocks everything and pays out the most pulls. Anecdotes (side-stories) add more.

Spiral of Destinies — the branching roguelike PvE mode (its own guide). Big rewards, and it teaches team-building.

Tower of Adversity — endgame challenge; come back once your core is invested.

Duel of the Fittest — asynchronous PvP; worth the weekly rewards even if you don't push rank.

How to actually play a map

Scout first — check enemy positions, ranges and the terrain. Retrying a map costs nothing.

Height matters: attacking downhill hits harder and further; being below an enemy is dangerous.

Facing matters: attacks from the side or back do more and can't be blocked as well. Keep your units facing threats.

Move as a group so your supports' auras (SP Inanna's co-attack / co-defense) cover the team, but not so tight that one AoE catches everyone.

Use the turn timeline — sequence your actions to kill or disable a dangerous enemy before it gets to act.

Early investment order

1. Get your selector carry and one support to a usable level and clear the story.

2. Build a durable Defender so your damage dealers survive.

3. Save weapon and Astral upgrade materials for units in the Tier List's S / A bands — don't sink them into early filler.

4. Push Spiral of Destinies for the roster and resource rewards.

5. Only then start Tower of Adversity and PvP ranked.
