Polar Bear opens a fight with frost. Shred hits once and adds 15 Freeze when the fight starts, and its stars add damage, more Freeze and a better chance to crit on the hit. A Freeze-stacking Wizard build, close to a hard counter for the Sea Spirit family, gets a quicker start from it, which is the only place it is worth a slot.
Ice Reaper brings the same Freeze, cuts enemy healing on top, and gets cheaper at its first star, so it replaces the Bear the day it hatches. Polar Bear stays at 3 energy, Red Dragon's price, for a single hit and a handful of Freeze. As a Rare pet it also weakens your combat stats in a lineup with Legendary ones. Owning it adds 4% Total ATK across your heroes, which is its lasting value.
