Against healing bosses, Skeleton Reaper is the Rare fallback. Curse cuts enemy healing by 45% when the fight starts and adds Freeze, and two of its stars deepen the cut. Before Ice Reaper hatches, it is the pet to bring against a Blood-Red Priest or the Revived Hydra, ideally with a Candlestick in the backpack for a further cut.
Ice Reaper does the job better even though its base cut is smaller: it drops to 1 energy at the first star, and its higher stars add Freeze every time the enemy starts to heal. At 2 energy, Skeleton Reaper is the cheapest Rare pet to carry, which is why it is the one Rare pet worth keeping on the bench for healer stages. As a Rare pet it still lowers your combat stats, so swap it out once Ice Reaper arrives.
