Magic Chess: GoGo rewards process over hero luck. This guide covers the decisions that decide most games — money management, tempo, and how to commit to a synergy. Built from the game's own systems, Moonton's Season 7 notes and top-player consensus, reworded. For the systems reference see Basics; for the meta comps see Comps & Tiers.
Bank to 50
Interest pays 1 gold per 10 banked, capped at 5 gold when you hold 50. Getting to 50 and staying there through the early and mid game roughly doubles your income — it is the single biggest lever in the game.
Spend below 50 only for: a hero that completes a synergy breakpoint, a 2-star you can finish now, or board power when your HP is genuinely at risk.
Late game, once you are near max level and your board is close to final, break the bank — a pile of gold with a losing board wins nothing.
Streak, don't drift
Win-streak and lose-streak both pay a gold bonus; sitting on a broken streak pays the least. Decide early which one you are on.
Win-streak: play the strongest board you can each round and press your HP lead into a faster level rush.
Lose-streak (a real strategy): deliberately field a weak board, take the streak gold and the low-HP interest protection, bank hard, then buy a finished board in one turn and flip to winning before you die. This needs you to track your HP — do not lose-streak into the grave.
Level or roll?
Levelling your Commander raises your unit cap and shifts shop odds toward expensive heroes. Rolling (2 gold a refresh) hunts specific heroes at your current odds.
Default: level on curve and only roll on spare gold above 50. Roll hard when you are low on HP and need board power immediately, or when you are one or two copies from a game-defining 3-star.
Rushing to Commander Lv.9 before the lobby is the whole plan behind the top commanders — get there first and you field a full late-game board while opponents are still one slot short.
Blessings and Magic Crystals
The blessing system lets you lock in the synergy you want early — on Season 7 you can bless a level-1 hero to guarantee a direction. Bless the economy or scaling synergy your plan needs (Scavenger, SPECTRE, Echomancer) and build straight toward it.
Choice Magic Crystals (Stages II–IV) are how you force a synergy your board can't reach naturally — the classic use is putting a Marksman or Stargazer crystal on a carry so it counts toward the synergy that makes it broken.
Some commanders (Gusion especially) exist mainly to make a specific crystal line-up easy to assemble.
Read the lobby
The hero pool is shared. If three players are forcing Marksman, none of you will 3-star the key units — pivot, or commit hardest and earliest.
Late game, scout opponents' boards. Buying a hero an opponent needs (even to bench it) delays their 3-star spike.
Watch who is low on HP — you want to be the one applying pressure when the lobby thins, not the one getting focused by the Commander damage.
Pick a plan and commit
The losing pattern is buying whatever the shop offers and ending with no active synergy. By Stage II you should know your plan: an economy engine (Scavenger, Echomancer), a scaling win condition (Marksman + Dauntless, Mage + Stargazer, SPECTRE → Alpha), and the commander that enables it.
Flexibility means switching between two plans your board and blessings support — not having no plan. See Comps & Tiers for the current meta archetypes.
