Play the demo first
The free demo is already on Steam. It runs the prologue and the first biome, the same biome Early Access starts with, and demo saves carry into the full game. Anything you craft, level or unlock now is still yours on the 27th.
If you are using the week to get ahead, two things carry furthest. Smelting feeds most early weapons: every sword and pair of knuckles from the Anvil needs two or three Copper Ingots, and each ingot is 10 Copper ore and 20 seconds at the Furnace. And weapon masteries level per weapon type, so the type you settle on in the demo is the one whose tree you will have started.
